Description

"A good cake starts with a handful of good nuts."
Shelled Walnuts – Halves | One Ingredient
Halves you can see in the cake and taste in every bite
Liovela Walnuts – mildly sweet, creamy, crunchy.
The ingredient list is walnuts and nothing else. These are carefully selected halves with a mildly sweet, creamy flavour and a crunchy bite. A whole half is decoration you can see at once on a cake, in muesli or on a piece of cheese, and chopped it becomes an ingredient for cakes, fillings and porridges. A handful is enough to give an ordinary breakfast, salad or bake something that crunches and smells of nuts.
A Small Trick
One minute in a pan that changes the flavour
Tip the halves into a dry, hot pan and toast for 2–3 minutes, stirring, until they smell nutty (or 8 minutes in the oven at 150°C / 300°F). Toasted walnuts are crunchy and have a more pronounced aroma – the difference between a nut in a cake that's merely there and one you can actually taste.
Let them cool before using, and watch they don't burn – burnt walnuts turn bitter.
In the Kitchen
Walnuts for sweet, savoury and breakfast
Nut cake without the effort
Chop toasted halves and fold them into carrot cake, banana bread or brownies. Place a few halves on top before baking – they stay crunchy and look great.
Pear with honey and walnuts
Halve a pear, bake for 15 minutes at 180°C (350°F), drizzle with honey and scatter with walnut halves. Serve with vanilla ice cream or yoghurt.
Salad with blue cheese
Rocket, pear slices, blue cheese and a handful of walnut halves. The nuts add a crunchy contrast to the creamy cheese.
Walnut pesto
Blend a handful of walnuts with parsley, garlic, olive oil and Parmesan. Good with pasta, on bread and with roasted vegetables.
Porridge with toasted walnuts
Cooked porridge, a spoonful of honey or syrup, a handful of halves and a pinch of cinnamon. Add the nuts at the end so they stay crunchy.
Toast with quark and walnuts
Mix quark or soft cheese with grated orange zest and a teaspoon of honey, spread on bread and sprinkle with chopped walnuts. Ready in three minutes.
Halves for the cake, the salad and the handful. Add Liovela Walnuts to your basket.
Premium Packaging
The most temperamental nut in the cupboard
Walnuts are very rich in fat (65 g per 100 g), which reacts easily with oxygen. In an ordinary bag they quickly lose freshness and pick up a bitter, rancid aftertaste. That's why we pack them in a doypack pouch with a high oxygen and moisture barrier with a resealable zip.
After opening, close the zip – you can come back to the pack for weeks and the nuts stay crunchy.
Walnuts | The Numbers
Concrete numbers, no promises
6.5 g of fibre per 100 g – and only 2.6 g of sugars.
100 g of product provides 654 kcal, 15.2 g of protein and 6.5 g of fibre. Thanks to the fibre content, under EU rules it can be described as high in fibre. The fat content is 65.2 g (of which 6.1 g saturated), so it is a very high-calorie product – a handful is plenty, i.e. 20–30 g (about 130–195 kcal). Sugars are only 2.6 g and salt 0.01 g per 100 g. You'll find the full table at the bottom of the page.
Good to Know
Why is it called a "walnut" – and what does Wales have to do with it?
The word walnut comes from the Old English for "foreign nut": "wealh" meant foreigner, especially someone from the Roman-speaking world. The nut itself originates in Central Asia. German follows the same trail: Walnuss goes back to "welsche Nuss", also "foreign nut".
Who Liovela Walnuts Are For
For people who bake and decorate – and for those who like to snack
If you bake cakes, make salads or porridge and want the nuts to stay visible rather than crumbled, the halves are for you. They're also a good choice if you simply like a handful of mildly sweet nuts with coffee or tea. And if you prefer a one-item ingredient list: walnuts.
Frequently Asked Questions
The most important answers (FAQ)
1. Are the walnuts salted or roasted?
We add neither salt nor oil. The ingredient is solely walnuts.
2. Are these whole nuts?
They are shelled walnut halves, i.e. without the shell. That makes them look good in desserts, cakes and salads.
3. What do walnuts taste like?
They have a mildly sweet, creamy flavour and a crunchy bite. They suit sweet bakes, cheese, salads and porridge.
4. Do they need toasting?
No, you can eat them straight from the pack. But 2–3 minutes in a dry pan boosts aroma and crunch – especially before adding them to a cake or salad.
5. How many calories are in a serving of walnuts?
100 g of product provides 654 kcal. Like most nuts, they are very energy-dense – a sensible serving is 20–30 g, or about 130–195 kcal.
6. Is this a high-fibre product?
Yes. At 6.5 g of fibre per 100 g, the product meets the EU criteria for the claim "high in fibre".
7. Does the product contain allergens?
Walnuts are tree nuts, so the product contains tree nuts. It may also contain traces of peanuts, other nuts, sesame seeds and cereals containing gluten.
8. Are walnuts suitable for young children?
No. This product is not suitable for young children because of the choking hazard – whole nuts are a real danger for children who can't yet chew hard pieces of food well.
9. Could there be pieces of shell in the pack?
We check the nuts carefully, but individual pieces may occasionally contain shell fragments. It's worth glancing over a handful before use.
10. How should I store walnuts after opening?
In a dry, cool place with the zip tightly closed. Walnuts contain a lot of fat, which loses freshness easily – which is why packaging with an oxygen and moisture barrier matters especially here.
